WHO IS THE COURSE FOR
Beginners to Intermediate
Prior to escaping to the quiet of the country in 2010, Geoffrey lived in Johannesburg where he studied fashion design and pattern making. He and his partner ran a successful function coordinating company and, later in Swellendam, the positively reviewed shop and restaurant Pennantwing. Geoffrey now produces botanical art in water colour, which is sold in SA and around the world.
Geoffrey is interested in a more technical and precise approach to art rather than wet loose techniques. His journey started with his first formal class with Lorraine Sicé in Swellendam, during a year of solid grounding in line drawing, form, perspective and composition. This was when he fell in love with water colour. After growing and experimenting alone, he chose to focus his direction on Botanical Art. He advanced his skills and gained confidence as he attended courses with some of the best in the field: Vicki Thomas, who is internationally known and exhibited; Willie Schlechter; and Gillian Condy, one of the most amazingly technically perfect artists. Geoffrey has embodied Gillian’s technical advice on being true to the scale and form of the subject matter with the least amount of effort, and achieving the most amazing glazing techniques with phenomenal effects.
