An extraordinary and unprecedented cooperation between all community members has brought to life The Swellendam Winter School From internationally renowned figures to local legends… Swellendam is full of gifted artists, talented musicians, creative writers, enthusiastic hobbyists, crazy adventurers, knowledgeable experts, inspiring entrepreneurs, meditation muses and many more. Somehow John, with a small team, pulled everyone together and created a unique and exciting project.
The course facilitators include such well known figures as Bev Missing, founder of Rain Africa, Ingrid Winterbach, novelist and artist, Andres Gouws, painter, David Schlapobersky, potter, Tony Lourens, Master Rock Climber, Dave Shackley one time bassist with Phil Collins, Natalie Turck, CEO of Wildebraam Berry Estate and many others.
From May to August …. The whole of Swellendam is becoming a ‘school’, the kind of school you could only dream of when you were a child! No boring stuff – just activities that were never on the mainstream curriculum. A school for adults, though family friendly as well. The Winter School has over 40 courses: from Bread Baking to Soap Making, from Horse Power to Self-Empowerment, from Birds to Beasts, from Fabric Printing to Furniture Painting, from Ecology to Economy … and so much more. Courses are either three days or five days in length and will be in venues all over Swellendam – some of them in facilitators’ homes, some in conference rooms and some in very surprising places!
